Taruwa

TARUWA (Hausa noun | /taː.ˈruː.wa/) means gathering or assembly.

More than simply bringing people together, TARUWA is the intentional gathering of people who share a common longing for belonging, genuine connection, and the opportunity to be fully present.

It was born from my own longing to find that kind of space as an African woman living in the diaspora. A place where I could let my shoulders drop. Where I didn't have to explain myself. Where I could simply arrive as I was.

What began as intimate Poetry & Tea gatherings over the years, grew into TARUWA, an experience created for those seeking the same sense of belonging, rest, and joy.

Following a sold-out first edition, TARUWA returns for its second edition, continuing that same spirit around one long table.

This Edition

This second edition centres women of the African diaspora, with an intentionally intimate gathering of no more than 15 guests, while warmly welcoming any woman who feels at home in its spirit. It is created for women who spend much of their lives adapting, caring, building, beginning again, and carrying more than the world often sees. Women navigating life between cultures. Women building home away from home.

For one evening, we choose something different: a table where nothing is expected of you except your presence. A place to exhale. To reconnect with yourself and with other women. To leave feeling a little lighter than when you arrived.

What to Expect

•An elegantly set long table.

•A homemade three-course shared meal with drinks.

•Guided moments of reflection and creative exploration.

•Music, movement, and maybe a little dancing.

•Thoughtful conversation.

•Meaningful experiences designed to invite every woman to participate, whether she considers herself creative or not.

At the heart of TARUWA is one long table.

Not just because food brings us together, but because something happens around a table that rarely happens anywhere else. We linger. We listen. We laugh. We tell stories we didn't know we were carrying. We leave having received as much as we gave.
