The world of wine is one of aromas, flavours, grape varieties and winemaking methods. But sometimes, the journey from vineyard to bottle has bumps in the road. From wild yeasts and bacteria through to external contaminants, there are many factors that can alter a wine’s character.

Join the Vlerick Alumni Wine Club for a tasting masterclass as we explore wine faults and what causes them. It’s a great opportunity to sharpen your palate – and network and catch up with fellow alumni.

The Art of Tasting’s wine expert, Sietze Wijma, will guide us through a number of tastings to identify 10 common wine faults. We’ll dive into what causes each one – and discuss the proactive and corrective steps winemakers can take to make sure the wine that reaches your glass is the best possible quality.

Sietze is a passionate wine and beer expert based in the Netherlands. Through his company, The Art of Tasting, he delivers distinctive tasting experiences, shares his extensive knowledge of flavour chemistry, and helps participants enhance their tasting skills. He previously worked in England for a flavour chemicals producer. Sietze holds the prestigious WSET Diploma, is an Advanced Cicerone®️, and earned his MSc in Sensory Science.
