"THE ROLE OF SPANISH WOMEN IN THE CONQUEST AND CIVILISATION OF AMERICA"
In the history of the conquest of America, there are few mentions of the women who shared with the rest of the explorers storms, attacks, hunger, and illnesses during the long journey from the Peninsula to America. The first women conquistadors remained anonymous for a long time and were not recorded by the chroniclers, but the truth is that they played a very important role in the discovery of the new continent .
Many brave women from all social classes embarked on a dangerous journey to America, risking their lives to find their freedom in a completely unknown world. The only common requirement to travel was a certificate of good conduct. These women became pioneers and settlers who, in extreme circumstances, exercised their right to live in America. In the absence or death of their husbands, they became Vice Queens, governors, captains, or businesswomen.
Mr Lucas Montojo will be coming from Madrid to present us countless events that have marked the history of Spain, Europe and America to demonstrate the relevance of women in the civilisation of the new world.
