Sex Worker Activism Through Art
Event Information
About this Event
Art is used by sex workers to reclaim media and public space through various forms and processes. Some initiatives are born out of the emergency of a situation, others are part of a long term anti-stigma work. In all cases, the works that emerge reflect the ingenuity, creativity, critical thinking and derision that characterises sex workers' perspectives.
This panel proposes an encounter with several of these projects, which are as original as they are inspiring.
Speakers: Carol Leigh from the San Francisco Sex worker Festival, Holy Marie from the collective La_rue_est_aux_putes, Eva Sanglante from Decriminalised Futures, Jo Pollux from Sex in times of corona, Flavirina from Sistaaz of the Castle, and Olga Rozenblum for a tribute to Maïa Izzo-Foulquier.
We are very honoured to welcome :
- Jo Pollux from porn project Sex in times of corona, a porn to raise funds for sex workers, made in a collaborative work with 16 Berlin sex workers and Film makers.
- Holy Marie former membre of the collective La_rue_est_aux_putes. She will talk about the fight against terfs, swerfs, and violences against sex workers through feminist collages on the street walls of France.
- Carol Leigh, aka Scarlot Harlot, the legendary activist and artist, inventor of the word “Sex work” in the 80’s, has led more than 50 years of political fight around sex workers visibility. She is the creator of the first sex worker fest in the world, the San Francisco Sex Worker fest that runs since 1999. She is also, among lots of incredible stuffs, the author of a prolific series of movies, writings and performances.

The Sistaaz are eager activists, proud to be trans, proud to be a sex worker, and even prouder of their stunning sense of style. Through this project, they want to be acknowledged.
- Olga Rozenblum, curator of exhibitions about the art of Maïa Izzo-Foulquier, who passed away tragically one year ago. A female rapper and photograph, Maïa Izzo-Foulquier aka Zelda Weinen, was a sex worker artist and activist.
