About this event
43 talented developers, designers and communication students transformed 10 real-world challenges into impactful open source projects during the open summer of code 2022. On Thursday 28 July, those teams will present and showcase their projects to the world and you're invited! 🤩
💡 Join us in person for the Demo Day on Thursday 28 July at 13:00 and discover awesome projects, meet young and upcoming innovators, and have a talk with the open community! All projects will be presented at Herman Teirlinck, followed by a meet-and-greet with the teams. It's free* and open to everyone!

Curious about the projects we build this year?
🏠 Digitalising Housing (CIRCL, Vanhout)
This project aims to inspire people about what their future home could look like based on 3D visualisations and open data.
🏛 Government Procedure Builder (BOSA, iO Digital)
We want to develop an easy-to-use web tool for government administrators with which they can design data-gathering flows for citizens (procedures). For example, a flow for requesting a new identity card.
🤖 Hey BOSA (BOSA, iO Digital)
We experiment to get a clearer view of the state of a voice assistant that can run locally and doesn’t need an external service (so not like Siri, google assistant but like Jasper or Rhasspy).
🔐 Inspector Widget (BOSA, iO Digital)
We will make sure that fraud during sales periods won't happen anymore! Our aim is to help FOD Economie inspectors by providing them an app that makes sure that prices advertised online are correct based on rules and regulations.
🧑🦼 Enhancing Accessibility (BOSA , iO Digital, On Wheels)
Making accessibility data available for everyone to use and reuse. How can we add existing accessibility data, already available via On Wheels, to OpenStreetMap and make community contributions available to On Wheels?
👨💻 Powerful Personal Data (IDLab)
We demonstrate how taking back control of your personal data can really empower everyone in their daily lives.
📚 The Impact of Sharing Knowledge (EWI FRIS & Ghent University Library)
We want to leverage the currently available metadata from research publications and explore that metadata, combined and/or enriched with other data sources, will deliver added value to researchers.
🤳 Track & Trace (NCCN)
We develop a proof of concept for a tracking app based on physical trackers and smartphones. This enables NCCN to track useful resources such as VIPs or assets during crisis management and emergency planning.
📈 Visualising Tax Data (Agentschap Binnenlands Bestuur)
Informing and involving citizens, organisations, companies and governments with Linked Open Data. With this project, we aim to increase the quality of data about municipal taxes and to open it up.
🗣 Communications & Branding (Open Knowledge Belgium)
We manage internal and external communications of #osoc22 and set up a new branding strategy for #osoc23. We promote this summer programme to future participants and partners.
