Two South Asian founders, one evening of textiles, stories and conversation
LET'S TALK ABOUT KANTHA
Kantha is often reduced to a stitch. Its real story is far more interesting.
The Indikon shop is delighted to host Sindhu, founder of Fifth Origins, for a conversation around Kantha embroidery. Join us as we trace Kantha back to Bengal, explore its origins, its cultural meaning, how it evolved, and the myths and misconceptions that surround it today.
Through textiles, stories and conversation, we will look beyond the surface of Kantha and uncover the histories, traditions and everyday lives that shaped it.
No prior knowledge of Kantha is needed, just curiosity.

This evening also marks the opening of the Fifth Origins pop-up at the Indikon shop. Fifth Origins works directly with craft clusters across India, including the Bondutha community behind the Kantha pieces you'll see (and can take home) that night.
It's an open and honest conversation between two South Asian founders about the crafts we've chosen to build our lives around, why they matter, who makes them, and what gets lost when a centuries-old tradition is flattened into a trend.
What to expect:
- A conversation between Sindhu and Radhika on the history and meaning of Kantha
- Food and drinks
- The chance to shop the Fifth Origins collection at the store
