Investing in vaccine R&D to support health security and preparedness
Overview
Join us at this high-level roundtable, co-organised by CEPI, IAVI, Vaccines Europe, and PATH bringing together policymakers, Member State representatives, public-private partnerships, industry and civil society. We foresee a strategic discussion on how vaccines can shape the new “Global Health Resilience Initiative” and how EU investments in health R&D can strengthen EU’s health security, autonomy, preparedness and global leadership.
The roundtable comes at a critical moment with the FP10 and MFF proposals published in July 2025. During her speech on the State of the Union on 10 September, von der Leyen announced that the EU will lead a Global Health Resilience Initiative, to tackle the next global health crisis. Previous calls for greater EU health R&D investment have not translated into sustained action; a fresh, joined-up approach is urgently needed, particularly as attention shifts to other priorities around defence and security.
This event aims to generate political momentum around the idea that health security and preparedness R&D must be a visible, funded, and coordinated priority. Through a unique multi-stakeholder gathering, it aims to bridge perspectives that are too often discussed in silos.
