As Europe's energy system becomes more decentralised and digitalised, the risk of cyberattacks on connected devices like inverters, batteries, and EV chargers grows. While renewables strengthen energy security by reducing dependence on foreign energy imports, their increasing connectivity creates new vulnerabilities.

In this workshop, we will open a discussion with participants on the cybersecurity risks posed by remotely controllable inverters. A new report by DNV, commissioned by SolarPower Europe, highlights the critical threshold of controllable capacity that could endanger grid stability across Europe. Using ENTSO-E’s grid model, the report identifies key vulnerabilities in both utility-scale and small-scale PV systems and offers targeted policy recommendations. It considers all potential attack vectors — from developers to manufacturers, installers, and service providers.

As the EU accelerates its transition to a smart, renewables-based energy system, robust cybersecurity frameworks are essential. This workshop will give PV industry representatives the chance to discuss challenges and solutions.
