Event description
The Commission's proposal for a new Battery Regulation may well have a devasting impact on light, electric vehicle businesses.

About this event

The European Commission has published a proposal for a new Battery Regulation in December last year. The proposal is aimed at improving the sustainability and safety of batteries throughout their entire life. Long-term sustainable batteries are key for the goals of the European Green Deal and contribute to the zero-pollution ambition set in it.

The Commission explicitly acknowledges the issue of batteries for light electric vehicles. They propose to categorise some of these batteries as portable batteries. However, the conditions set out for this categorisation are such that certain light, electric vehicles (LEV) will be prevented from coming on the market. And that may in turn threaten LEV-manufacturers in their very existence.

The current proposal is particularly bad for e-scooters, self-balancing vehicles, electric cargocycles, speed pedelecs but also electric mopeds, electric motorcycles, electric 3- and 4-wheeled vehicles. Some of these vehicles will have their batteries categorised as electric vehicle batteries. The requirements for this category are currently too complicated and too difficult for business in the light, electric vehicle sector.

LEVA-EU is organising two online information meetings:

1) on the proposal in relation to e-scooters, self-balancing vehicles, electric (cargo)cycles, speed pedelecs, ...

2) on the proposal in relation to all electric vehicles from L3 and upwards, i.e. electric mopeds, electric motorcycles, electric 3 and 4-wheel vehicles

We will explain the proposal, the effects of the proposal on your business, LEVA-EU's plan to change the proposal for the benefit of your business and how you can help LEVA-EU in this campaign.

The first meeting takes place on Thursday 22 April from 10.00 till 11.15.

The second meeting takes place on Thursday 22 April from 11.30 till12.45

Your registration will be valid for both meetings. Following your registration and (for non-members) payment, you will receive a link shortly before the meeting.

For any further practical details about the meeting, please contact Daan van Dieren, daan@leva-eu.com.
