Concept-Based Language and Literature Inquiries
Overview
This professional learning experience is a deep dive into concept-based inquiry framed within the context of language and litearture. Participants will explore the principles of designing meaningful concept-based units of inquiry, and as well as the approaches to teaching that can help to bring the model to fruition.
This experience will share insights based on a language and literature curriculum that has been successfully implemented for three years. Participants will enagge with unit planners, lesson plans, learning experiences, and strategies which are part of middle and high school plan.
This workshop will demonstrate how intentional, inductive and explicut teaching can support teaching and learning with conceptual understanding in mind. Participants will take part in model lessons, and collaborate in the design of a unit of inquiry.
The following sessions frame the professional learning experience in this workshop:
- What is the story of our subject?
- A deep dive into teaching process explicitly.
- A deep dive into the act of generalising
- Launching units of inquiry
- Monitoring the construction of conceptual understanding
- The power of continous assessment
- Determining the right time to start a culminating experience
- Design of a concept-based unit of inquiry
Participants will receive
