Event description
A blind tasting of wines from typically European grape varieties grown in Europe and elsewhere around the world.

About this event

Dear all,

For this wine tasting, we will discover some European and New World wines, always in pairs of the same grape variety or blend.

To overcome bias and make the tasting more objective and fun, we will tastethe wines blind. That means you will first taste the wines and score them and try to guess which is the Old World and which is the New World wine. Then I will tell you which was which. Then we'll repeat that for a total of eight wines.

To ensure that there's something for everyone, we'll do at least four white wines and at least four red wines, paired with some appropriate food.

The tasting costs 40 euros and is limited to the first 15 people who register via Eventbrite.

I'd be delighted if you could take part!

If you find something you really like and I have some extra bottles to hand I will be happy to sell them, otherwise I'm also always happy to take orders or tell you where you can buy them yourself.

In respect of Belgian rules this tasting is only open to people with the COVID Safe Pass. Please don't reserve unless you have one! I can give partial refunds for cancellations up to 2 days before the event.

I hope to see you soon!

Organizer Terre Mieli Cieli

Organizer of Blind tasting: New World vs. Old World

Brandon Mitchener grew up in the United States and has spent the past 30 years close to vineyards in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Belgium. A former journalist, he has always loved sharing what he has learned with others--ideally over good wine and food and wine.

Brandon received his sommelier diploma in 2015 after a grueling 18 months of sipping beers, wines and spirits and learning how to pair them with food. Lesson #1: Don't even try to pair wine with pickles! Lesson #2: There is a world of good wine for good value beyond French wine, which completely dominates the Belgian market and much of which is over-priced.

He started Terre Mieli Cieli's wine tastings as a time and place to share and discover some good wines together in good company. The wines are always paired with plenty of good, appropriate food.

You can buy some of the best wines featured in our tastings online.
