Barolo vs Brunello and 2019 vs 2020
Overview
The tasting will be a serious competition: beginners can appreciate the quality and pleasure from sensational wines and provide honest feedback, contributing to the scoring.
While professionals can help with expert opinions and compare two vintages of these wines, so different ones, to discover if they have anything in common: was 2019 excellent for both or the two regions/terroirs reacted differently to the seasons?

🏛️ Barolo, the legend. Barolo has earned its place in history as “the wine of kings and the king of wines.”It’s legendary because it shaped Italy’s fine-wine identity in the 19th century — long before DOC laws, long before global fame. It embodies centuries of winemaking, noble families, unification battles. Its legends — Giacomo Conterno, Bartolo Mascarello, Giuseppe Rinaldi — are mythic figures who defined authenticity and tradition. Vintage 2019 – Exceptional, classical, built for ageing /Overall rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Vintage 2020 – Warmer, rounder, more approachable/ Overall rating: ?
In short: Barolo made history.
🌟 Brunello, the icon. Brunello di Montalcino is younger but became the modern symbol of Italian excellence. It represents the Italian dream of quality, elegance, and export success — a single-varietal expression (Sangiovese Grosso) refined to perfection. From Biondi-Santi’s pioneering 19th-century vintage to the global fame of producers like Banfi, Brunello embodies style, identity, and prestige. Vintage 2019 – Elegant and structured/Consortium rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
Vintage 2020 – Warm, generous, and smooth/Preliminary rating: ?
In short: Brunello defines excellence.
In addition to wine, some tapas will be served to sustain the long journey ahead of us:)
