Antwerp: Queer Walk Schipperskwartier
Queer Antwerp and the struggle for equal rights
Description: Join us for a fabulous Queer Walk through the vibrant Schipperskwartier district in Antwerp. Explore the rich history and culture of this area while celebrating diversity and inclusivity. This event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and support the LGBTQ+ community in a fun and engaging way.
Why this walk? Antwerp was not always a safe place for queer people, but the community always found ways to come together, speak out and fight for equal rights. On this walk, we will take you through key places in queer history from the 1950s to the present day. Discover how activists, organisations and meeting places contributed to the visibility, acceptance and pride of the LGBTQIA+ community in the city. A tour full of stories of struggle, solidarity and progress.
On Sunday 3 August 2025, you can go out in the Schipperskwartier and discover the rich past of the queer community in Antwerp. From countless cafés, bars and nightclubs, to places where struggles were fought for more equal rights.
These walks are organised in collaboration with Het Roze Huis during Antwerp Pride.
