Spain is the only nation that has managed to reconquer its freedom after eight centuries of foreign domination (711-1492), the first nation that invented parliamentary forms, the first to give life to a modern state in terms of administrative efficiency and the quality of the educational system, and the first to carry out, more than fifty years ahead of the Council of Trent, a comprehensive reform of the Church.
And most important, Spain evangelized and civilized an entire continent and in just a few decades, it integrated it into the Greco-Roman and Christian tradition. At the height of the era of slavery, thanks to the extraordinary personality and deep faith of Isabella of Castile, it defended the freedom of its American subjects and freedom natives from terrible traditions oincluding to mass human sacrifices and cannibalism. Greed, injustice, and violence are always lurking everywhere, but the Spanish Crown and the Spanish Church did everything in their power to combat them.
