playField 'The Last Resort'

Daarbij schuwt PlayField moeilijke vragen niet: hoe vrij zijn we nog in een wereld vol algoritmes? Wat doet digitalisering met ons sociale leven, onze privacy en ons geheugen? Bezoekers worden niet als toeschouwer binnengelaten, maar als deelnemer. Zo worden hun keuzes en reacties onderdeel van het werk en wordt de ervaring voor elke deelnemer anders.

Met The Last Resort ontwikkelde playField een theatraal parcours: bezoekers bewegen zich langs een route van tekst en beeld, die toewerkt naar het paviljoen. Tijdens dit parcours ontvouwt zich een speculatief hiernamaals. The Last Resort rolt een all-inclusive vakantieresort uit als plattegrondplan rond het paviljoen. De gasten hier zijn geen levende mensen, maar deadbots: digitale nabestaanden, AI-reconstructies van mensen die er niet meer zijn.

Verschillende artistieke ingrepen werpen een blik in een wereld die er eigenlijk niet is. Als een soort perforaties van onze wereld naar de wereld van onze digitale alter ego’s.

Bij deze interactieve installatie hoort ook een live performance, die drie keer wordt opgevoerd. Om iedere deelnemer een optimale ervaring te bieden, is het aantal plaatsen per performance beperkt. Vooraf registreren is daarom noodzakelijk.

playField’s work combines art with technology and science. Through a range of disciplines, the collective explores social themes that provoke thought and reflection.

playField doesn't shy away from difficult questions: how free are we in a world driven by algorithms? What does digitalisation do to our social lives, our privacy and our memory? Visitors are not welcomed as spectators, but as participants. Their choices and reactions become part of the work, creating a unique experience for each participant.

With The Last Resort, playField has created a theatrical journey in which visitors follow a route of text and images leading towards the pavilion. Along the way, a speculative afterlife gradually unfolds. The Last Resort expands an all-inclusive holiday resort into a site plan surrounding the pavilion. Its guests are not the living, but deadbots: digital survivors, AI reconstructions of people who are no longer alive.

Through a series of artistic interventions, the work offers glimpses into a world that does not truly exist—like perforations connecting our world to that of our digital alter egos.

This interactive installation also features a live performance, presented three times throughout the exhibition. To ensure the best possible experience for every participant, capacity is limited for each performance. Advance registration is therefore required.
