Michael Hannah
I am an independent Scottish celebrant. I mainly conduct funerals and memorials but recently (2025-6) I've been exploring how to adapt my work to mark the grief people feel over environmental degradation and the climate crisis.
Specifically, I am creating spaces for people to express this grief. These might be environmental grief circles where people share their stories of loss. Or they may be more ceremonial events to mark those losses.
Apart from my initial training as a celebrant in 2018, I have also studied for a masters in end of life studies at the University of Glasgow, graduating with distinction in 2024. I continue to collaborate with members of the end of life studies group. In the winter of 2025/6 I trained as a grief circle facilitator with a team from Vancouver.
In addition to my celebrant work, I am a carer looking after my 91 year old mother on a full-time basis.
