The Bulletproof Coach

The Bulletproof Coach

Hi, I'm David Saville. I worked at the same company for 17 years. I couldn’t envision a life outside of that. I didn’t even go for an interview anywhere else because I didn’t think I had anything to offer.

I began my journey of transformation and trained to be a coach while working there. New possibilities came alive inside of me. Maybe this could be my future?

For 5 years I went on training courses, hired my own coaches to support me, and coached a LOT!

In 2014 my grandma was living on her own. I needed to be there for her, and the job was keeping me away, so I handed in my notice and made the leap. My fear of what could happen to her if I wasn't there was stronger than my fear of failing. She was the best reason for me to take that risk.

My mum and I moved in to support her, and I built my coaching business from there.

The first months were tough. No income, bills stacking up, no promise of paying clients, and I didn’t have a lot of time. My mum and I were sharing the caring duties. I was getting very little sleep, working as many hours as I could spare.

I was doing what I loved and being there for my family, that's what mattered most. And I was making a difference, my clients’ lives were changing. I didn’t have the income yet, but I had the impact. So I kept going.

Seven months after leaving that job, I had 4 clients invest at the same time and I earned the equivalent of almost 3 months salary. I can't fully express just how important that was; what it gave me and my family.

From there, I kept building. By 2016 I was established, with plenty of renewing clients, referrals and a steady flow of opportunities.

At that time other coaches were reaching out for help. They weren’t getting the clients, income, or success they wanted, and they’d seen what I’d built. Most thought the problem was their marketing or their niche, but we quickly uncovered the real problem.

They’d been spending far too much time trying to sell their coaching and nowhere near enough on becoming a better coach. They hadn’t developed the kind of excellence necessary to be truly successful, so I began training them to create real life change results in every session. When that is your priority, it makes you bulletproof.

When COVID hit, coaches everywhere saw their businesses struggle or collapse. Mine grew. Previous clients came back looking for support they knew they could rely on. Others referred family and friends to a coach they could trust to serve them.

Then my mum got seriously ill, and overnight I became her sole carer. I stepped back, kept just a handful of clients and took on the occasional referral. Because I’d built my business this way, I’ve been able to shape my life entirely around her needs for six years and counting. I don’t know what kind of disaster would have befallen us if I had to rely on marketing.

I’ve been coaching since 2014, and this lesson has proven true throughout: Be an excellent coach, and everything else takes care of itself.
