89 Initiative

The 89 Initiative has its roots in the rallying cry of Professor Timothy Garton-Ash, who called on the 89er generation to regenerate the European Project. Established in 2015, the Initiative now spans six national branches, a social network start-up, and thirteen research programmes, all working to its inaugural goal: regenerating European politics through trailblazing ideas and start-up initiatives.

The Initiative aims to be transnational, addressing cross border policy challenges through its single pan-European policy programmes. Ultimately, it seeks to harness the dynamism of a new generation of European thinkers, infusing local and national, as well as EU debates with new political thinking about Europe and the wider world.
