The Charlotte Gaymers Network (CGN) was founded on July 6, 2020, by friends Jonathan Barrio and Zach Smith, who recognized the need for the LGBTQ+ community to stay connected during the isolation of a world-altering pandemic. What started as a small initiative has since grown into a vibrant and thriving community hub for LGBTQ+ gamers and allies across Charlotte and beyond.
CGN’s mission is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for people from all walks of life, united by our shared love of gaming. From board games and tabletop role-playing adventures to video games and immersive social gatherings, CGN provides a safe space for connection, laughter, and friendship. Our events are designed to celebrate diversity and bring people together, whether you’re a seasoned gamer, a casual player, or simply looking for community.
Today, CGN hosts events throughout Charlotte, North Carolina, and surrounding areas, building bridges across neighborhoods and offering opportunities for members to connect both virtually and in person. The community is proud to represent people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences—making CGN a place where everyone belongs.
In June 2025, leadership of CGN transitioned to Executive Director Will Jeffcoat-McLeod, who continues to honor the legacy of our founders while guiding the organization into an exciting new chapter of growth, innovation, and community impact. Under his leadership, CGN remains dedicated to fostering inclusivity, promoting representation in gaming culture, and creating unforgettable experiences for all who walk through our doors.
We hope to see you at one of our events soon—come as you are, and game with us!
