Heart-based (Training Education Services)
Heart-based is committed to supporting professionals in their work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, families and communities. We do this in the provision of training, education and services that builds on your organization's strengths, local knowledges, and practices. All tools and resources consider areas of neuroscience and trauma, with our aim to support your organization in becoming culturally fit through the integration of local cultural wisdom and lived experiences.
Heart-based's training, education and services packages include Cultural Fitness Training, a set of 4 conversations each held over 1 day. These are, Conversation 1 - Historical to individual trauma: mapping the narratives of the impacts of trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families as well as an exploration of the First 1000 days and beyond: understanding the impacts of early childhood experiences and working towards positive change; Conversation 2 - Developing a culturally safe environment by examining the cultural safety of your organization and then planning to transform your environment to work better with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, families and communities; Conversation 3 - Domestic and Family Violence is not Men's Business but Everybody's Business; and Conversation 4 - An exploration of the impacts of exposure to the trauma experienced by your client base and a step-by-step guide in designing a take-home toolkit personalized to your resources and strengths
The Youth Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid 2-day course is led by our trained and Licensed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Instructor. At the completion of this course, your staff will have the skills to recognize and respond to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.
Also, Heart-based's Safe & Together™ Model Certified Trainer can deliver the 4 Day Model CORE training which is designed to provide a skills-oriented foundation for domestic abuse-informed practice. Each day will provide key skills and learnings for participants to implement the Safe & Together Model into their practice.
