Jonny Barr
Hi my names Jonny Barr and have been riding snowboards since 1989. I was a sponsored from 1991 until 2010. Living the dream and following the snowboarding life style, where I managed to do 17 seasons in Chamonix France. Having spent so much time in Chamonix, most of my snowboarding was in the back country and what better way to access it than on a splitboard. When traveling with my snowboard sponsors, I learnt a lot about events and how they were hosted. When I decided to move back to the UK, Scotland was on my radar and quickly based myself in Aviemore in the highlands. After hooking up with the crew who I new from back in the day, I soon started working with the Cairngorm Snowboard club. Noticing that there wasn't much of a comp scene I spoke with some of my sponsors and soon set up a bunch of events with the club. This was mainly snowpark, as its what most of the kids wanted to do and where the sponsors like to see themselves. After 6 years I decided to take a back seat and work with the club as a coach. This was when I decided to do some more splitboarding within the Scottish highlands. After some time I noticed that there was a deep history of touring in Scotland through the skiing side of things. This got me thinking more about setting up a demo on UK Snow with leading brands and guides. With my connections in the UK industry I soon gathered some intrest and the birth of UpBattle began. 10 years on we have hosted some of the events in testing conditions, where we get folk racing up through the Cairngorm resort battling it out for some epic prize's. Along the way we have raised over £10,000 for the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team with the famous raffle. This has grown now into hosting a BBQ in the village of Aviemore and moving over to the West of Scotland, hosting a demo at Glencoe mountain resort.
This event is for anyone who wants to expand there snowboarding into shredding the backcountry. You will learn from top guides and snowboard shop sales teams on how splitboarding works when at the demos.
Look forward to seeing you
Jonny
