FACTS ABOUT THE GOLFSIXES

GolfSixes is a revolutionary new short form of golf.

It follows an exciting team match play format over two days, instead of the traditional four-day, 72-hole stroke play.

12 different nations will compete over six holes with six different personalities.

Defending champions Lucas Bjerregaard and Thorbjørn Olesen will return to represent Denmark along with Players from England, France, Australia, Thailand, Italy, South Korea, South Africa, USA, Spain, Scotland and Swedenand will compete against each other for a prize fund of 1 million as the six-hole circuit winds around an activity-packed fan zone. The eventual winners will receive €100,000 each.

To add a different twist this year there will be 4 Wildcard teams which include European Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn and Solheim Cup Captain Catriona Matthew who will become the first male and female professionals to play together in a competitive match play format on the European Tour when they form the ‘Captains Team’. There will also be an ‘England Women’s Team’ comprising Charley Hull and Georgia Hall and a ‘European Women’s Team’ of Spain’s Carlota Ciganda and England’s Mel Reid. The final wildcard goes to Ireland, who is represented by Paul Dunne and Gavin Moynihan.

TV host Vernon Kay, who will once again co-host the fast and fun six-hole tournament, will also tee it up in the Pro-Am before he takes on hosting duties alongside Golfing World’s Anna Whiteley over the weekend of May 5-6. Other hosts include Nick Dougherty, Henni Zuel and Wayne Riley who will keep fans at the venue and at home up to date with the action.

Other celebrities include Chris Hughes of award winning ITV programme Love Island and Gary Beadle of hit MTV show Geordie Shore will make their debuts in the event, which starts off an exciting weekend of golf on Friday May 4.

Also teeing it up are Irish music stars Keith Duffy of Boyzone and Westlife’s Brian McFadden.

World Cup winning rugby star Schalk Burger will bring a competitive edge to proceedings, alongside his Saracens team mate and fellow South African Schalk Brits.

They will be joined by TV and radio presenter Jenni Falconer, who will compete as part of a new activity with the PGAs of Europe in conjunction with love.golf, as she is guided through the process of being introduced to the game, learning, and ultimately becoming a fully-fledged golfer.

The Teams will play in a
Greensomes format, where the teams select their best tee shot and then play alternate shot thereafter. On Saturday May 5, the teams will be split into four groups of four, similar to the UEFA Champions League football group stages.

The top two teams from each group progress to the knockout stages – the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, a 3rd/4th place play-off match and the final – all of which will be contested on Sunday May 6.

Each of the 6 holes will have their own personality and colour, the Fan Zone will have a range of fan interaction activities across a variety of sports and fans will have the opportunity to win prizes through the day
