Beschrijving van het evenement
This evening debate within the framework of Wiki Women Design aims to reflect upon the role of women in the contemporary design practice.

Over dit evenement

As the evening program to the Wiki Women Design symposium "Women, Design & Heritage" taking place on 23 September, the Flanders Architecture Institute is organizing a debate night in collaboration with MAD Home of Creators in Brussels on the same day. On this occasion, architects and researchers are invited to engage in a debate on the role of women in the contemporary architectural practice. They will touch on why the representation of women in the field is so important, as the presence of women in architectural history and in the contemporary architectural practice is absolutely essential for future generations. In a debate with each other and the audience, the architects will embark on a discussion on role models and key figures, entrepreneurship, creativity, finding one’s place as a woman in the field and the challenges that this might bring, and feminism in architecture and design more generally.

The location of the debate, MAD Brussels, fits perfectly in the context of the project. The Wiki Women Design project uncovered that the building of the MAD was originally an office and showroom for Usines Peters-Lacroix (UPL), designed by female modernist architect Eliane Havenith in collaboration with Marcel Anneet. This discovery this makes the center the perfect location to house the conversation on women in contemporary architecture professions.
