Organisateur de Come and Sing
St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood, is a church and parish in the north of the borough of Croydon that seeks to serve its community with inspiring worship and social outreach. We are a very inclusive church, welcoming people of every age, background, colour, sexuality, gender identity, and experience. We are a mix of people of Christian faith, people exploring their beliefs, and, of course, people who have doubts. Whether you’re a regular member of the congregation or join us for the first time, there’s always a place and a warm welcome waiting for you.Our life together is centred on the High Mass, which takes place at 10:30 am each Sunday. A sermon is preached in church while the children take part in their own worship and activities, and then we come together for Holy Communion. The choir accompanies our worship, and also sings Choral Evensong at 6pm on two Sundays a month (usually the first and third - but please check our website for details). The church is open every day, and worship continues Monday to Saturday with Morning Prayer at 9am and Evening Prayer at 5pm. There are also additional services of Holy Communion on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10am. There’s lots more besides worship going on at St John’s. Every Wednesday from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm the Upper Norwood Hive welcomes all comers for lunch and socializing, optional well-being activities and singing (between 2 and 3), and gardening takes place on the Meadow. We also have a cafe for refugees every other Friday morning.St John’s is a very musical parish, having special relationships with the London Mozart Players and the Central Band of the Royal British Legion. We have regular coffee concerts (usually on the first Saturday of each month) and organ recitals (usually on one Thursday evening a month), as well as the regular round of sung services by our choir. We regularly prepare people for baptism and confirmation, and run Lent and Advent courses to keep us refreshed in our faith.
